Obsidian Entertainment has announced that PS5 players will receive a free upgrade to its beloved 2019 PS4 action RPG, provided that they own a copy of the original and its DLC. The Outer Worlds‘ original PS4 version and its add-ons will no longer be available for purchase on most platforms starting May 27, 2026.
The Outer Worlds PS4 owners will get the RPG’s PS5 Spacer’s Choice Edition for free
On May 27, all existing The Outer Worlds PS4 base game owners will be upgraded to the PS5-only 2023 Spacer’s Choice Edition for free.
On the same date, the launch version will be delisted for PS5 players. Only those with access to the PS Store via a PS4 console will be able to purchase the 2019 version.
There is a caveat, though. You’ll need to own the PS4 game and its DLC to get the Spacer’s Choice Edition for free.
“After May 27th, to upgrade to the Spacer’s Choice Edition from the base game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, you will need to own the base game and both DLCs for The Outer Worlds,” Obsidian wrote. “That said, we are removing the paid upgrade path, and as long as you have everything, the Spacer’s Choice Edition will be yours.”
At the time of this writing, The Outer Worlds PS4 and its DLC aren’t on sale on the PS Store. Should that change, we’ll let our readers know.
