Rumor: Soul Reaver Reboot in the Works at Crystal Dynamics

March 20, 2012 Written by Alex Osborn

The second entry in the Legacy of Kain series, Soul Reaver is rumored to be getting a reboot by the team over at Crystal Dynamics.

According to a source close to VG247, the Soul Reaver reboot “is a full reworking of the vampire action classic, and includes a new art direction.” The news outlet also reports that an E3 unveiling was initially planned, but it looks like that will no longer be the case.

For those that don’t remember the PlayStation classic, Soul Reaver launched on Sony’s console and the PC way back in 1999. The vampire themed action-adventure turned out to be quite a hit, which led to a followup, appropriately titled Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2. The franchise went on to spawn two more entries that found their home on the next wave on consoles.

Since then, we haven’t seen another installment in the series, so a reboot certainly isn’t out of the question. Crystal Dynamics is currently working on the Tomb Raider reboot, so we likely won’t hear anything about this alleged Soul Reaver revamp until after they’ve finished Lara’s adventure.
