Bring on the Indies: PlayStation Mobile SDK Now Public
Yesterday we asked you to tell us how PSLS could improve, and a bunch of you said “more coverage of indie developers!” Well, that’s certainly going to happen now that Sony has released the PlayStation Mobile SDK, opening the floodgates to true indie developers. Specifically, PSM has launched in Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia, with more countries set to follow.
Unlike previous Software Development Kits for PlayStation platforms – which range from $3,000 up to $20,000 – this SDK is free to download, with a $99 annual fee if you actually decide to publish what you’ve made. Not having huge amounts of money is no longer an obstacle for developers, so the true ‘bedroom dev’ can create games for the PS Vita and PS Certified smartphones and tablets. They’ve even made a little video to entice you (although Eufloria is an odd choice for the video, considering it is actually the sequel to a highly successful iOS game).
