UK Software Sales in 2013: PlayStation Finishes Behind Xbox

We already know Grand Theft Auto V, FIFA 14, and Call of Duty: Ghosts represent the top 3 selling games in the UK during 2013, respectively, and now ERA, using GfK Chart-Track data (via MCV), has revealed how well the software on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo platforms performed last year in the UK.

Check out the software sales data for each system brand in 2013 below, with a comparison to the previous year in brackets:

  • Xbox (Xbox 360, Xbox One) – 14.4 million games sold (down 6.5%), £458 million in revenue (down 2.1%)
  • PlayStation (PS4, PS3, PS2, PS Vita, PSP) – 11.4 million games sold (up 1.8%), £372 million in revenue (up 15.2%)
  • Nintendo (Wii U, 3DS, Wii, DS) – 6 million games sold (down 35.5%), £142 in revenue (down 27.6%)

Clearly, Xbox was the big winner in 2013, with PlayStation being the only brand that saw growth over the previous year, and Nintendo suffering major drops both in games sold and revenue.

With the PS4 and Xbox One both enjoying a full year on the market in 2014, do you think the PlayStation family of systems will sell more games than the Xbox duo? Let us know in the comments below.
