Assassin’s Creed Unity Runs at 900p/30fps on PS4 & Xbox One to “Avoid Debates”

Assassins Creed Unity Preview

Ending any questions about resolution and frames-per-second, Ubisoft confirmed to Videogamer that Assassin’s Creed Unity will run at 900p/30fps on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In his explanation, Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand said the reason Ubisoft kept the specs the same on PS4 and Xbox One was to “avoid all the debates and stuff.”

He continued by talking about how the consoles GPUs “are really powerful,” but the CPUs restricted them from reaching higher specs:

We were quickly bottlenecked by that and it was a bit frustrating, because we thought that this was going to be a tenfold improvement over everything AI-wise, and we realised it was going to be pretty hard. It’s not the number of polygons that affect the framerate. We could be running at 100fps if it was just graphics, but because of AI, we’re still limited to 30 frames per second.

Ubisoft didn’t say if Unity would follow the same strategy as Black Flag, first launching at 900p, then getting a patch to 1080p shortly after release.

Assassin’s Creed Unity releases on November 11 in North America and November 13 in Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
