SuperData: The Top-Grossing Digital Console Game of 2015 Was Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

In their worldwide digital games report for 2015, SuperData revealed that the entire market was up 8% year-over-year to $61 billion.

For some highlights, digital console games rose 34% compared to last year, sitting at $4 billion annually. Mobile was the biggest dollar earner at $25.8 billion (up 10%), social games dropped by less than 1%, and subscription-based game fell 4%. The overall biggest-grossing digital game was League of Legends ($1.6 billion), followed by Clash of Clans ($1.3 billion) and CrossFire ($1.1 billion).

Focusing on digital console games, 2014’s Call of Duty and FIFA games were at the top last year, with Grand Theft Auto V and Destiny rounding out the top four. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was the top new release of 2015, seeing $224 million in digital games revenue, more than doubling the $108 million seen by Fallout 4.

Here’s the top 10 grossing console games by digital revenue:

  1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – $355 million
  2. FIFA 15 – $332 million
  3. Grand Theft Auto V – $322 million
  4. Destiny – $291 million
  5. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – $224 million
  6. FIFA 16 – $212 million
  7. Fallout 4 – $108 million
  8. Star Wars Battlefront – $106 million
  9. Madden NFL 16 – $76 million
  10. Madden NFL 15 – $73 million

As for PC and mobile, SuperData says the combined earnings of PC digital games for the top titles was at $6.3 billion, putting it ahead of the $6.18 billion seen for mobile’s top titles.
