Sony Prepping a Massive Uncharted Ad Campaign

As Uncharted 2’s release date draws ever nearer, anticipation for the award winning title just keeps on growing. While core gamers may understand that Drake’s latest adventure is one of the best games of the year, Sony has faced an uphill battle to educate mainstream gamers and consumers about the title. In the past, Sony may have been criticised for the lack of advertising given to their games and platforms, but Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which is set to be Sony’s biggest game this year, looks to buck the trend and become Sony’s most heavily advertised PlayStation game.

Sony recently began a short advertising campaign for the game in the UK, which we predicted was hinting at a larger one closer to release. On Monday, October 12th, a full-length HD trailer will run for a four week period, including during the England World Cup qualifying matches. Additionally, there will be a ten week sponsorship campaign on both Sky One’s Friday Night Movie, and, appropriately, the Discovery Channel’s “Adventure & Survival” programmes. Cinema campaigns will also run a different full-length advert, utilising all in-game footage, from October 23rd.

If that wasn’t enough, print advertising will be coming soon, in publications such as T3 and the Official PlayStation Magazine as well as being featured prominently in The Sun newspaper.

Uncharted 2 is set to release on the 13th of October in the US, 14th in mainland Europe and the 16th in the UK and Ireland.
