PlayStation UK Boss Isn’t Concerned About the PS4’s Holiday 2015 Software Line-Up

As of right now, the Xbox One will have Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Forza Motorsport 6 as its big titles this holiday season, with more possibly being revealed during its E3 2015 press conference on Monday, June 15.

When it comes to Sony, they’ve yet to date their E3 2015 press conference, and we don’t have a clear idea of their holiday 2015 line-up of PlayStation 4 games, though we know it won’t include Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the Ratchet & Clank remake.

In an interview with MCV that took place shortly after the PS4 hit 2 million sold in the UK, PlayStation UK Managing Director Fergal Gara touched upon their line-up for this holiday, which he isn’t worried about at all:

I won’t go into any detail now. There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway for PS4 and No Man’s Sky. That’s just the start of what is on the table right now. So I don’t have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak.

Based on his comment, it sounds as though both No Man’s Sky and Tearaway Unfolded will come to PS4 in the latter half of this year.

As for the lack of games available on PS4 and Xbox One, Gara says it’s due to over-ambitious developers, but the issue will resolve itself over time:

My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve. What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That’s perhaps driven some conservatism to not overly force this and make sure we get it right – there’s been an adjustment of pace.

The good news is that the ability to stick to timelines will improve as people get experience of the hardware under their belts. I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape.

With Sony placing so much focus on the PS4, the PS3 won’t be as heavily promoted as years past. “It will certainly be around for this year and beyond, but don’t expect it to have anywhere near as much focus in the UK as PS4,” he said. “The gap between the two is very, very wide.”
