No Sequel Planned for Space Marine Despite Decent Sales

Danny Bilson, THQ’s Executive Vice President of Core Games recently spoke out on the future of the Warhammer 40K franchise, explaining that a sequel to the moderately well received Space Marine is not currently in the cards.

He also went on to add that the game sold relatively well for them. So why are they not continuing to build upon the franchise you might ask? Well, it looks like the publisher has their hands full with another title set in the Warhammer 40K universe, one that is so large that there simply won’t be enough room for a Space Marine 2.

In an interview with Joystiq, Bilson explained that Dark Millennium, their upcoming MMO set in the Warhammer 40k universe, will likely fill any void fans of the franchise might have come 2013.

We’ve already announced the Imperium in the MMO as a class you can play, and if you combine that it’s very active, as opposed to the more turn-based stuff. I’m not sure there’s room for Space Marine.

We are heavily invested in the 40K universe, so there’s more stuff coming in the 40K universe, absolutely. We extended the deal for quite a while.

If you loved Space Marine, you can rest assured that downloadable content is on the way, as the studio hopes to extend the life of the title as long as they possibly can.
