Releasing three days ahead of schedule, rhythm violence game Thumper is going live today (at 3pm PT/6pm ET) in the North American PlayStation Store for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR, priced at $19.99 USD. If you’re picking up PSVR this Thursday, a Thumper demo will be included on the Demo Disc.
In development for seven years, Thumper includes nine levels, all playable on PS4 or PSVR. Drool Co-Founder Marc Flury says, “Thumper uses just one analog stick and one button, so it’s simple to pick up and play. But it’s challenging to master — even the best action gamers will spend hours surviving the advanced levels and defeating the terrifying bosses. We’ve also added expert-level moves you’ll need to master to reach high scores and unlock lucrative Trophies (including a Platinum).”
Here’s the full description:
Thumper is a rhythm violence game by Drool releasing on PS4 (with PSVR support) and Steam: classic rhythm-action, blistering speed, and brutal physicality. You are a space beetle. Brave the hellish void and confront a maniacal giant head from the future.
- Play in ultra-glossy 2D or fully immersive VR
- Nine levels of Rhythm Hell
- Adrenalizing Boss Battles, including the terrifying Crakhed
- Simple Controls: one stick and one button
- Psychedelic Visuals
- Original Soundtrack by Brian Gibson of noise-rock band Lightning Bolt
If you plan on buying a PS4 Pro, Thumper will render at up to 4K resolution (with no upscaling) on the new hardware on day one. “PS4 Pro also enhances the VR rendering quality while maintaining the same rock-solid 90 frames-per-second,” Flury adds.
Thumper is also available today on PC. The European PS4 release will happen on October 13.
