You Can Rescue and Recruit a Bear Named Cheeseburger in Far Cry 5
Last week, I went hands on with a few hours of Far Cry 5, getting to know some new things about the game that have yet to be shown. As enamored as everyone seems to be with Boomer, Far Cry 5’s lovable pup, my animal of choice is going to be a little heavier. Cheeseburger is a bear that had a fondness for cheeseburgers while at a wildlife preserve in Hope County. Eventually he got diabetes and was put on a liquid salmon diet, but the nickname stuck.
To recruit Cheeseburger, I start out by reclaiming the F.A.N.G. Wildlife Center from the cult. Eden’s Gate has been using the F.A.N.G. Center to train wolves. Once a resident of the preserve, Cheeseburger was released before the cult took it over. Now that F.A.N.G. has been liberated, I’m told Cheeseburger has been spotted to the North. Before I approach the beast, I’ll need to catch some fresh salmon to befriend him. After learning and to fish and catching a couple of big ones, I get word of a Cheeseburger sighting.
After I reach his location and feed him my fresh catch, Eden’s Gate swoops in to capture the bear. At this point my mission objective was to protect Cheeseburger from the cult, but I happily sat back and observed as the bear ripped through the cultists like a bear through cultists. Cheeseburger is a powerful and intimidating beast, but when he’s on your side, he’s just a big teddy bear.
The video above shows the process of recruiting Cheeseburger, highlighting how organic many of the missions are. I was never given an explicit goal of getting Cheeseburger on my team. The mission unfolded in a procedural way as I liberated that particular area. After that I needed to talk to a specific person before being directed to Cheeseburger’s actual location. Now the hardest choice will be choosing between Cheeseburger and Boomer.
Ubisoft recently highlighted the deadly animals of Far Cry 5. They also announced some external media to flesh out the story of the Eden’s Gate cult, including a prequel book and a short film called Inside Eden’s Gate. Will you be rescuing the Far Cry 5 bear in order to have the adorable yet deadly Cheeseburger on your team?
Far Cry 5 releases on March 27 for PS4 and Xbox One.
