Players Think This Bully Reference in GTA Online Is Hinting at a Sequel

Although we reported on the supposed cancellation of a followup to Bully, fans are still trying to will the project into existence. In GTA Online’s most recent update, the community spotted an in-game store selling some artwork that references the Bullworth Academy logo from Bully. You can check out the painting below:

The top left represents a fist, the top right is a snake, the bottom left is a rat, and the bottom right is a skull. The official Bullworth Academy logo looks like this:

While this inclusion seems to simply be a reference to Bully, some may believe this is Rockstar’s way of hinting at a sequel. We’ve seen hints like these for other games before and sometimes they end up being true.

One thing that is a bit more of a stretch is what Reddit user Generic102419 did using tMorse code to try and prove the existence of a Bully followup. The creator of the in-game painting, Mathew Morse, had some fans thinking there was a hidden message in the painting. Generic102419 used the highlighted dots on the painting to come up with a series of Morse code messages that could be arranged to read “Dan4.”

Some Reddit users think “Dan4” is a reference to Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games.

The original Bully launched in 2006 for the PS2 and was later remastered for the Wii and Xbox 360 as Bully: Scholarship Edition in 2008. The game didn’t set the world on fire during its initial run, but has developed a sizable fan base over a decade later. Although, with the tremendous success of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, there’s no telling if Rockstar will ever branch out beyond those two series. There was a time when Rockstar had a constant flow of a variety of titles like Midnight Club, Max Payne, Manhunt, and L.A. Noire, but has now shifted to what makes the most money: GTA Online.

So will we see a sequel to Bully? Maybe one day. For now, Rockstar is likely chipping away at the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series for PS5. What do you think of this Bully reference in GTA Online? Let us know!
