PS5 Will Outsell Xbox Series X/S 2-to-1 in 2022, Analyst Predicts

Ampere Analysis’ veteran analyst Piers Harding-Rolls has said that he expects the PlayStation 5 to outsell Xbox Series X/S two-to-one in 2022.

Harding-Rolls thinks console supply will see an improvement this year. The past year was tough for both Sony and Microsoft in that they were unable to meet demand despite producing more consoles than ever before. Although he expects more PS5s and Xbox Series X/S consoles to become available, Harding-Rolls thinks supply will improve “slowly.”

PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S sales prediction

Harding-Rolls has predicted that PS5 disc and digital editions will sell roughly 18 million units combined, Xbox Series X and S will sell nine million, and Nintendo Switch will sell 21 million. Switch has the advantage of availability and its sales have also seen a boost following the release of the OLED model.

Opinion: Xbox Activision deal won’t have any immediate impact on sales

Zarmena writes… As expected, social media users have already predicted doom and gloom for Sony after Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It’s understandable why, though. Activision owns Call of Duty, one of the biggest and most popular video game franchises in history. In fact, much of the discourse surrounding the significance and even the legality of the deal has involved Call of Duty and its potential exclusivity. However, it’s worth pointing out that the acquisition won’t be completed until mid 2023, so sales forecasts for 2022 aren’t impacted by recent developments. It’s also worth noting that a good chunk of the gaming population doesn’t exactly follow industry news and couldn’t care less who acquired who. Not right now, anyway.

In other news, Sony has rubbished Bloomberg’s report of producing more PS4s to offset PS5 shortage, and Suda51 is apparently in talks with Marvel.
