Red Dead Redemption 2 May Include Red Dead Redemption’s Full Map

For months, fans have speculated that Red Dead Redemption 2‘s map encompasses part of Red Dead Redemption’s. While Rockstar Games never corroborated these hypotheses, some screenshots and gameplay footage provided evidence enough. Now it seems eagle eyed fans were not wrong in assuming they’d spotted Red Dead Redemption’s town of Armadillo in RDR2. According to Dutch website Inside Gamer, Rockstar has confirmed the older game’s entire map features in the forthcoming release.

In a post translated by Reddit users, Inside Gamer said the following about RDR2’s map during a Q&A session with readers:

Q: Are Armadillo and New Austin in the game?

A: Yup! After asking Rockstar they told me the entire (!) map of Red Dead Redemption is also in this game, but that of course there are many more areas added. In the six hours I played I only got to see a small part of Blackwater, and even that was already gigantic. Six hours was not enough to see any of the other familiar places.

Inside Gamer has since withdrawn this part of the Q&A section. In its stead is a statement about the outlet not wanting to give away too many spoilers, while also noting the map’s incredible size. The stealthy retraction suggest there’s some truth to the Dutch website’s original claim. However, this should all be taken with a grain of salt.

Still, a map that features Red Dead Redemption locations and the presumably massive world of RDR2 could explain its file size coming in at 105GB. Or, perhaps storage space is being reserved for the enormous breadth of wildlife and the highly detailed world.

Luckily, the wait to explore the map for ourselves slowly draws to a close. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
